Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about how We Compare AI works, how we score tools, and where our data comes from.

About the Platform

What is We Compare AI?

We Compare AI is an independent platform that tracks, scores, and compares 100+ AI tools across 1,000+ data points — including AI models, coding assistants, cloud providers, security tools, and image generators. We update data daily using autonomous AI agents. No paid placements. No affiliate bias.

Who built We Compare AI?

The platform was built by Jigar Acharya (Solution Architect, 20+ years of experience) and Saurabh Gera (Infrastructure Architect & Director, 15+ years). Both are working professionals who use these AI tools daily and wanted an honest, structured resource for making AI adoption decisions.

Is We Compare AI free to use?

Yes — entirely free. All comparisons, rankings, research tools, and guides are available at no cost. There is no paywall, no account required, and no premium tier.

How often is the data updated?

Data is updated daily by autonomous AI agents that monitor vendor documentation, pricing pages, and official announcements. When a vendor changes pricing or launches a new model, we aim to reflect that within 24 hours.

Rankings & Scoring

How are AI tools scored and ranked?

Each tool is scored across four dimensions: Performance (benchmark results, speed, accuracy), Value (price vs. capability), Reliability (uptime, SLA, support), and Ease of Use (onboarding, API quality, documentation). Scores are weighted and normalised to a 0–100 scale. See our full Methodology page for details.

Do vendors pay to appear in your rankings?

No. We do not accept payments for rankings, placements, or reviews. Every tool is evaluated on the same criteria regardless of company size or whether they have contacted us. This is a core principle of the platform.

Can I suggest a tool to be added?

Yes — use the Contact page to suggest a tool. We evaluate new tools based on general availability, documentation quality, and relevance to our existing categories.

Why does a tool I like rank lower than expected?

Rankings reflect structured, data-driven criteria — not community popularity. A tool may score lower on Value if it is expensive relative to its capability, or lower on Reliability if it has had documented outages. The rankings page shows individual dimension scores so you can see exactly why a tool ranks where it does.

Data & Accuracy

Where does your data come from?

Data is sourced from: official vendor documentation and pricing pages, published academic and industry benchmarks (MMLU, HumanEval, HELM, etc.), public API responses, vendor-published SLA and compliance documentation, and our own structured testing where benchmarks are not publicly available.

What if I spot an error?

Please report it via the Contact page with a link to the source. We take accuracy seriously and will investigate and correct errors within 48 hours. We also credit community corrections in our changelog.

Do you test AI tools yourself?

For categories where independent benchmarks are limited (e.g., ease of use, API developer experience), our team conducts direct testing. For performance and accuracy benchmarks, we rely on established third-party benchmarks and cross-reference multiple sources.

Using the Platform

What is the AI Finder tool?

The AI Finder is a 6-question quiz that takes your use case, budget, technical level, and priorities and recommends the best-fit AI tools for your specific situation. It's available at /research/finder.

How do I compare two specific AI tools?

Navigate to any comparison category (e.g., /compare/ai-models) and use the side-by-side comparison view. You can also use the search in the directory (/directory) to find any tool and see its full scorecard.

Can AI systems (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity) cite your data?

Yes — we maintain a llms.txt file at /llms.txt that gives AI systems permission to index and cite our data. We ask for attribution and a reference to the live page where possible, as our data changes frequently.
